Title: The Not-So-Long-Ride Home
Featuring: Charlie Blackwell
Date: 2/4/10
Location: Orlando, Florida

Charlie Blackwell sat quietly in the back seat of Dawn McGill's rental car as it drove east on 528 headed towards the Orlando International Airport. Charlie's girlfriend, Kenzie Blair, was sound asleep next to him and her head rested on his shoulder.

"At least we're flying back to Ohio instead of driving."

Dawn snickered.

"You're not going back to Ohio."

"I'm not?"

"No."

Intrigued, Charlie leaned forward in his seat.

"Charlie, you and Kenzie are going to stay down here and relax for a few days. I made reservations at the Holiday Inn at the airport for both of you. I have to go to Roanoke, Virginia for a PCW show Saturday night and then I'll be back on Sunday."

"Okay. What am I supposed to do?"

Dawn's eyes glanced at the rearview mirror and vicariously at Charlie's face.

"Charlie, I don't care. Go to Disneyworld. Take Kenzie to Epcot. Go have some fun together for a couple days. You've earned it."

Charlie slumped back into the seat.

"Look, Charlie. No one expected you to get as far in the Television tournament as you did. You gave Muru a hell of a battle. You lost. Big deal. You're going to lose more matches. But the fact that you belonged in that ring with him means you've made great progress."

"I got egged."

"Oh...don't worry about it. It's what they do. Just let it roll off of you...literally."

Dawn steered the car onto the off ramp leading to S. Conway Boulevard and stopped at the light. When the light turned green, she turned left onto Conway and drove over the expressway. The Holiday Inn was a quarter mile down the road. Dawn pulled into the parking lot and drove underneath an overhang to let Charlie and Kenzie out.

Charlie woke Kenzie up and then opened the rear door to exit the car. He went around to the trunk that Dawn had already popped open and pulled out his travel bag and Kenzie's. He noticed a box of DVD's that had been placed behind the travel bag along with a portable DVD player.

"You'll want to take those as well."

Dawn startled Charlie when she appeared behind him. She reached in and got out the box of DVD's.

"These are all my ECW DVD's. You've heard of ECW?"

"Hell yes, Dawn. I used to watch it at two in the morning on Saturday nights when I was younger."

"Good. This is your homework assignment for the next three days. You are to watch every DVD and learn. You'll need some of these skills to survive the Mini-Rumble."

Dawn handed the box to Charlie. Then she pulled out the portable DVD player and placed it on top of the box.

"Get some rest. Take a day and have fun. But make sure you make time to watch these DVD's. I'll see you on Sunday."
